Dearest Daddy February 26, 2015
Happy 80th Birthday!
On your birthday mom and we would like to express our love, admiration and appreciation for all that you have done and continue to do for us, especially for mom and for what you are.
As children we got best example to follow. We learnt from your stories that studies are important as was sports as was mischief - too bad you did not let us run away with your Ambassador/Omni van even under your supervision.
We absorbed the lessons of love, respect and duty that you had for your parents. We had happy energies from the fact that we heard no backbiting about this relative or that although your favourites also became our favourites.
We knew that having a career was not an option but a must and the integrity and honesty were to be carried with you at all times.
We fought with you at different times - some of us crying, some of us yelling and banging doors and one of us running away from home on a monthly basis - sometimes about going out, sometimes about food (soup), tuitions, studies, friends, motorcycles and what not's and yet you were happy to reconcile when we came around without too much discussion.
We learnt that praying was a daily deed and faith in God was never to be questioned whatever the adversity.
We are grateful for the exposure that we had to places because you took us to so many. Before it became fashionable we had as children and young adults travelled and eaten out at different places more than children all around us (sometimes dragged us multiple times to the same place as well such as Zoo). You read and collected books and we read them all so that reading is such an integral part of us. So are "swalla" and "gharmein phaltu ho gaya hai" when we drive.
Enjoying life's many small moments such as all of us playing rummy sitting on the bed in a circle, you laughing loudly and plenty over silly stories in family gatherings and generally having a jolly time what some of our happy memories are made of. You continue to stay connected with people, wishing them, visiting them, hosting them all of this and more are what we loved about you.
Your ever so thoughtful spirit to enjoy life, learn and excel at new things such as new technology, focussing forever on the positive, are our lessons for the future.
And finally from mom's side if she could communicate we think she too would have expressed her love and respect today. We always knew that while you could be strong-headed with mom, you could not disrespect her and she would have today expressed her affection for ensuring that respect for her. You teased her about Dev Anand and her fondness for sardarjees, praised her cooking unfailingly, bought her sarees when you did not splurge on yourself and so many little things that we probably don't even know and she would have remembered the love today. It's still there in her somewhere because she still remembers only you and looks forward to your return from even short trips. So she thanks you today and we also thank you for treating her special and taking care of her.
And we thank you for being the person that you have been and that you are and for the world that you mean to us.
Happy Birthday!
Lots and lots of Love
Bubly, Mona, Dimpy and Bittoo
